We are a small operation. We are fine with that.
The Company
Free-Range Mystery Box Co. exists because the mystery box industry does not take the mystery seriously. A box whose contents can be predicted from its price point is not a mystery. It is a convenience. We are not interested in convenience. We are interested in boxes that produce a genuine response when opened.
We operate with a small number of active cultivations at any time. This is deliberate. A curator who is responsible for too many boxes cannot give each box the attention it requires. We have chosen depth over volume. The waiting list reflects this, and we are not apologetic about the waiting list.
We believe that knowing someone well enough to build a box for them takes time. We believe that time is not a cost — it is a material. The duration of cultivation is not something we are working against. It is something we are working with.
Every curator associated with this company has been trained to observe, not to decide. The box develops. The curator attends. The distinction matters enormously.
We are not a subscription service. We are not a gift shop. We do not have a catalog. We do not fulfill on demand. If you arrived here expecting any of those things, we are not the right fit, and we encourage you to find something that is.
